  1. CURRENT EVENT SUMMARIES (CES): Each student can receive a possible thirty (30) points per summary up to a maximum of 90 points (three summaries due).  The general content of each summary should include: a title page, a 700 word summary (minimum), and a reference page.  Please follow the “grading criteria” of each current event summary carefully:

A.
On the dates specified in the class assignment schedule, you will be given a specific current event to research and provide a summary.  The topic will be released, via Moodle/E-mail, at least one week prior to the due date.  If you don’t receive an e-mail within the week deadline, check the topic through the “Class Announcements” link on Moodle.

B.  Summarize each current event in a MINIMUM of 700 words per topic (approximately 3 full pages), paragraphs indented, spell checked, double spaced, and size 12 font.

C.  Each summary should have a title page: indicating your name, instructor’s name, course title, course section number (CRN) and summary number (1, 2, or 3). It is expected that students write at a college level (proper paragraph indentation, comma placement, grammatically correct, etc.).

D.  Reputable sources must be used.  Look at the credentials or degree held.  If

no credentials are given, do NOT use that source. NO magazines or                            newspapers should be used.

F.  The sources must be from 2012 – 2019.

G.  You must have three separate sources for each topic, citied on a SEPARATE reference page (insert a “page break” at the end of your summary).

Please use the following APA format:

Author, Date of publication, Title of the article, Name of the journal (or book), volume, and page numbers.

For example: Robinson, Robert, MD. (2016). Understanding heart disease.  Health Education.  52, 7-9.

Internet sources should be cited as follows:

Murry, J. (2016, Jan).  The Benefit of Mental Heath.  The Top 7 Mental Benefits of Sports.  Retrieved March 10, 2017 from https://www.healthline.com/health/mental-benefits-sports

Note:  When researching your articles, make sure there is a clear date of publication.  Do not use the “retrieved” date as the date of publication, they are distinctly different.  If the article does not have a date of publication, please select a different source.
